My name is Beth Shortell Lynch and I am the Democratic candidate for Town and City Clerk in the City of Ansonia. My husband Tom and I are lifelong Ansonia residents and raised our three sons here. Four of our seven grandchildren live here as the sixth generation of my family to call Ansonia home.
With more than twenty years working in municipal government, I’ve done the job, and I’m looking to put my training, knowledge and practical experience back to work for our city, as the Town and City Clerk.

In a recent letter to the editor, Alderman David Blackwell spoke upon the funding of the Ansonia School District. In the letter, he explained how, under Mayor David Cassetti, school funding has increased over the past four years.
While this is true, the way that he expressed this data was incredibly misleading, and although funding has increased, so has the percentage of underfunding within the district.

Improving the Ansonia school system is one of the main reasonsI am running for re-election as Seventh Ward Alderman, and why I am proud to support Mayor Dave Cassetti.

I think it is a good time to take a step back from the arguments and the back and forth about the budget to take a look at the unique community we call Ansonia.
Growing up we are taught in history class about how the United States is a melting pot of diversity — how all the different people from different backgrounds create what we call America. Luckily we don’t have to look far to see this firsthand.

As an aldermanic candidate for Ansonia’s Fifth Ward, I cannot wait to be part of the many improvements being made across the city by Mayor Cassetti and his team.

Once again Tarek Ralsan has let his political ambition get in the way of the facts.
In his recent column, the candidate takes issue with legal fees billed by the firm of Berchem Moses under Mayor Cassetti, yet both his argument and numbers are entirely out of whack.
