The people of Shelton must be commended for believing in Mayor Mark Lauretti, by giving him a resounding victory in the city’s mayoral election in November, despite allegations, without any charges made, that he was implicated in a bribery and conspiracy connection, in the recent Botti court proceedings.

On Monday morning, Lauretti said he was still giving it serious thought and would make a decision later this week or early next week.

The first week of the federal corruption trial of Shelton developer James Botti is over.
Mayor Mark Lauretti has been a major focal point of testimony so far. He spoke to the Valley Independent Sentinel Friday evening about the case.

Republican Mayor Mark Lauretti has been saying it for at least six months — “I may run for governor.”
He went public Wendesday to writer Ken Dixon in the Connecticut Post, saying he’ll form a committee to explore entering the governor’s race.
Then came news that Shelton’s top building official lied to a grand jury about taking gifts from developers.
Lauretti late Wednesday was undeterred.

Shelton Mayor Mark A. Lauretti, a Republican, beat two challengers in Tuesday’s election to secure his 10th term in office.
Lauretti received 6,105 votes, or 53.9 percent of the votes cast.
