The City of Shelton says former finance director Sharon Scanlon took “at least” $348,416 in public money in part by depositing city checks into her personal accounts without authority.
The information comes from 25 pages of documents a city lawyer filed last week at Superior Court in Milford.
The documents say the city is about to commence a lawsuit against Scanlon and asks a judge to attach her Crescent Drive home to the case to secure the $348,416 she allegedly took.

The city will be filing a civil lawsuit against Sharon Scanlon, the former assistant finance director who resigned last week amid a probe into theft of city money, Mayor Mark Lauretti said Monday.
The mayor said that a lien against property owned by Scanlon on Crescent Drive is one of several possible avenues of restitution to recover the “hundreds” of thousands of dollars he says the city is owed.
“There will be a civil lawsuit. There will be. No matter what,” Lauretti said. “We feel pretty confident that, at least by what we know now, that we’ll be able to make the city whole.”

Rumours swirled Thursday about the absence of the leaders of the city’s finance department from City Hall, though it seems nobody can — or will — explain what’s going on.
Shelton’s finance director, Lou Marusic, and assistant finance director, Sharon Scanlon, were not at City Hall Thursday.
A source told the Valley Indy heard about the absences Thursday afternoon — and that someone had been ordered to leave by Mayor Mark Lauretti.
Employees in the finance office said Thursday afternoon the two were on vacation — but no one knew when the workers would return.
