ANSONIA – Mayor David Cassetti was elected to a sixth term of office on Tuesday in a lopsided victory for the “Team Cassetti” Republican slate.
Cassetti defeated Democratic challenger Tom Egan 2,676 votes to 741, according to the head moderator’s report from Ansonia City Hall. Petitioning candidate Harry Danley, Jr received 306 votes.
In addition to acknowledging the support of his family and friends, Cassetti praised his supporters, but he also pointed out that this year’s campaign had become contentious, highlighting those who, he said, resorted to using Facebook to criticize the mayor and his family.

DERBY – Joseph DiMartino and the Democratic slate of candidates swept Tuesday’s municipal election, with DiMartino ousting Republican incumbent Mayor Richard Dziekan from his seat by a vote of 1,263 to 727.
“The residents took back their city,” DiMartino told supporters at his Minerva Street campaign headquarters.“We ran a campaign on facts, we let the residents know what was going on in their city, and they listened. Today is a new beginning for Derby.”
DiMartino said he’s excited to get to work.
“So now it’s our job to give back to the residents that just voted us in and work all together and straighten this town out and bring it back to where it used to be,” DiMartino said. “We can make a huge difference in turning this city around. I cannot wait to work with every board and every one of you to make that happen.”

SEYMOUR– Republican First Selectwoman Annmarie Drugonis was re-elected Tuesday, defeating Democratic challenger Phillip Wilhelmy, III by a vote of 2,331 to 1,270.
The Valley Indy will update the numbers on Wednesday morning.
Drugonis, 54, celebrated her victory with supporters at the Housatonic House Restaurant on Route 34.
“Now Republicans, we’ve kept our seats. We kept them because we fight. We kept them because we’re good at our job. Now go out there and continue the good work, and work as a team. Continue coming together and moving the town forward like we need to,” Drugonis said.
