A hearing officer for the state’s Freedom of Information Commission is reviewing a settlement agreement between the City of Ansonia and a former zoning officer to determine whether the city can keep it hidden from the public.
The move comes after the Valley Indy filed a complaint against the city under the state’s Freedom of Information Act, saying the agreement should be made public.

The Derby school board accepted the resignation of three top administrators without comment during a meeting Monday.
School officials once again focused their comments after the meeting on “moving forward,” without talking about what they’re moving from.
After the meeting, Superintendent Matthew Conway said he would not discuss personnel matters.

Members of the Derby Board of Education are scheduled to meet Monday to “take action” on the resignations of the Derby High School principal, the Derby Middle School principal, and the Derby Middle School dean of students.
The meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in the cafeteria at Derby Middle School.

Derby school officials did not release any new details Wednesday about the sudden departure of high school principal Greg Gaillard.
The principal handed in a one-sentence resignation letter Tuesday night. It was effective the same day it was handed in. His letter cited unspecified personal reasons for his departure.
Gaillard’s resignation is the third major leadership change within Derby’s public schools in a month.

The city didn’t follow its own procedures before hiring a company to market Derby in an infomercial, and the result was embarrassing.
But the city righted itself by killing the contract, Alderman Art Gerckens said during an Aldermen meeting Thursday.
Gerckens, who represents the Second Ward, was talking about Derby’s contract with “Communities of Distinction,” a Florida-based infomercial company.

Derby Mayor Anita Dugatto said Tuesday the city is using taxpayer money to fund a $19,800 infomercial to promote the city and lure potential investors.
The video will be five minutes long and will be part of an infomercial called “Communities of Distinction.”
Just who was footing the bill was a mystery Monday, when the city sent out a press advisory inviting coverage of the production shoot.
“It’s an economic development initiative,” Dugatto said. “I’m trying to market the city. This is what we need to do. We need to really put forth what Derby is all about.”

The prospects of a plan to put a $20 million food waste-to-energy plant on Ansonia’s North Division Street are looking increasingly bleak, if the questions from local lawmakers are any indication.
On Tuesday several Aldermen raised doubts about the project for about a half-hour at their regular monthly meeting as Chris Timbrell, a principal partner for the company that wants to build the plant, tried to quell their concerns.
Meanwhile, city officials have postponed a trip they had tentatively planned to Orlando, Fla. to see a similar facility there.
