For the third year running the Valley has a new paczki eating champion.
Torrington resident Nick Wehry bested 11 other hopefuls Tuesday morning to win the top $150 cash prize at the 19th annual eating contest at Eddy’s Bake Shop in Ansonia.
Wehry had put away nine of the paczkis when Mayor David Cassetti called time.

A dozen entrants bellied up to the table Tuesday morning for the five-minute contest, which bakery owner Paul Ciocca started after reading about the annual tradition of Polish-Americans making paczkis for Fat Tuesday.
The field did not include last year’s champion, Brandon “Feast Mode” Carr of Seymour.
Wehry, who took second place last year, did not mind. And as time wore during Tuesday morning’s event, it became clear he would be the winner.
Happy (if full) after the contest, he said that Tuesday’s win was his first title.
What drew him to the contest?
“I’m a big fan of eating,” he said.
