All Quiet On The Housatonic Front

The early morning passed without major flooding along the Housatonic River.

The river, which submerged 25 homes in Oxford alone Monday, was at 13.5 feet at 5:30 a.m. Friday. The flood stage is 11 feet.

It is expected to rise to 15.4 feet by 7 a.m. Saturday.

That’s still below Monday’s high of 21.6 feet, which was the highest point the river reached since 1984.

NOAAEverything is good so far,” said a Shelton emergency dispatcher at 6:07 a.m. There is no flooding to report.”

The town has an area called the Maples, on the river near Indian Well State Park, that is prone to flooding. But it was okay there this morning.

In Derby, the situation was normal.

It’s actually been okay, no calls or anything,” a dispatcher there said.

The water levels were up, but not so high that there were reports of flooding, said a dispatcher in Seymour.

There were also no reports of major flooding in Oxford.

Sen. Richard Blumenthal is scheduled to be in the Valley today to assess flood damage from Monday.

He’ll be meeting with Oxford First Selectwoman Mary Ann Drayton-Rogers at 9:30 a.m. at Oxford Town Hall.

He is then scheduled to meet with Derby Mayor Anthony Staffieri, Shelton Mayor Mark Lauretti and emergency officials at 1 p.m. at the Maples.

U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro is scheduled to arrive in Derby Saturday at 11 a.m. to meet with Staffieri and to tour flood-prone areas of Derby.
