Ansonia’s new farmers market will open on July 19 at the West Main Street parking lot.
The Board of Aldermen on Tuesday approved the use of the lot for the farmers market, after the Economic Development Commission proposed starting one in the city.
The market will run on Thursdays from 2 to 6 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. until the fall, according to EDC chairman Vinnie Scarlata.
“This is awesome,” Scarlata said. “You think it’s a farmers market, it’s only a couple days a week. But it’s one more element to draw attention to Ansonia and to draw people to downtown.”
Scarlata said the EDC has invited farms and nurseries from Derby and Ansonia to participate, including Marcucio Gardens, Hilltop Garden Nursery and East Side Greenhouse.
The market will be held near the train station side of the West Main Street parking lot.
