Ansonia residents and officials honored a local firefighter Tuesday for rescuing a woman from a house fire in July.
Scott Thompson, a 33-year member of Eagle Hose Hook & Ladder Co. No. 6, was at home at his house on Webster Drive July 31 about 7 p.m. when the fire department was dispatched to a structure fire at the house next door, owned by former Town Clerk Madeline Bottone.
Thomson rushed into the home, found Bottone at the top of a staircase, and guided her to safety, according to a Facebook post from Eagle Hose Hook & Ladder.
EMS treated Bottone at the scene and took her to Bridgeport Hospital for treatment.

Thomson joined the Eagles in August 1982, a second generation firefighter whose family’s roots in the fire department date back to 1963.
During Tuesday’s regular meeting of the Board of Aldermen, Mayor David Cassetti read a proclamation honoring Thomson, who attended the meeting with family.
Thomson “must be commended for his heroic efforts just recently,” Cassetti said.
“We all benefit from his 33 years of commendable service in the Ansonia Fire Department,” the mayor added.
“We wish to extend to you our sincere appreciation for your outstanding performance in duty,” Cassetti told Thomson.
Residents and Aldermen then gave Thomson a standing ovation.
As the applause died down, Thomson’s father Jack, a past captain of the Eagles and former fire chief, gave his son a more personalized tribute.
“That’s my boy!” the elder Thomson shouted.
