ANSONIAPolice said they arrested an Ansonia man on charges connected to a narcotics sale that led to a woman’s death.

On Wednesday (Oct. 9), police arrested Michael Dupre, 50, in connection to the sale to an Ansonia woman who died of an overdose in October 2023.

Dupre is charged with one count of misrepresentation of a controlled substance and one count of sale of narcotics, according to police.

Ansonia Police Lieutenant Patrick Lynch said Dupre had sold pills to the victim which contained bromazolam, a benzodiazepene.

Bromazolam is a new drug and relatively little about it is known, according to a draft report from the World Health Organization. However, it began to appear in illicit sales, falsely marketed as legal prescription drugs, sometime around 2016. In this case, the victim believed she was buying Xanax from Dupre, according to Lynch.

The victim was 24 years old.

Dupre was arraigned in Derby Superior Court on Thursday (Oct. 10). He is being held on $150,000 bond.
