Ansonia Police: Lock Your Cars

There has been a rash of thefts from cars in Ansonia this month, city police said.

In most cases, the cars were left unlocked overnight, said Ansonia Police Chief Kevin Hale.

They’re not breaking into the cars,” Hale said. The cars are open.”

Since the beginning of the month, about a dozen examples have been reported to the police, Hale said.

In most cases items — such as GPS devices and electronics — are taken from the cars, but in some cases the cars were just left a mess, Hale said.

In once case, on the night of July 8, a Honda Odyssey with keys left inside was stolen from Buswell Street.

Hale said the thefts have taken place across the city — in the north end, on the Hill Top and on the east side.

Hale advised residents to keep their cars locked at night and to avoid leaving valuable items inside the cars, as it could tempt a thief to break a window.

It looks like they’re walking down the street late at night and they’re just checking cars,” Hale said. People need to pay attention to that. And keep their cars locked.”
