Kristen Hunt, a nine-year veteran of the Ansonia Police Department, is the department’s newest detective.
The Ansonia Aldermen unanimously approved Hunt’s promotion Tuesday (Oct. 8).
Hunt, a graduate of Ansonia High School, joined the force in 2003.
She had been a part-time police dispatcher for eight years before being hired as a patrol officer. She holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the University of New Haven.
“She is one of the best officers we have in a very good police department,” Ansonia Police Chief Kevin Hale said. “The task, no matter how difficult or complicated, she dives right in and tackles it.”

She initially worked as a counselor with the Department of Corrections after graduating from college.
“I wanted something that involved more action and that was different every day,” Hunt said.
The new detective has worked cases with the department’s anti-crime unit. Her name appears in several arrest warrant applications connected to Valley narcotics investigations, including a July 2012 case that brought down an alleged drug gang.
Hunt said she hopes to work on more drug cases now that she is a detective. She said she likes the inherent challenges involved in narcotics investigations.
“The drug work is always something that has appealed to me,” she said. “I’ve done some drug-related special assignments that I really liked. Being a detective will let me do a little more of that than I could in patrol.”
Hunt comes from a well-known Ansonia family. Her uncle, Jack Hunt, was a legendary high school football coach who passed away in November.
“This is a most-deserving promotion,” Hale said. “It is only going to make us that much stronger.”
Hunt’s salary will be $68,000 per year.
