Ansonia Releases Phased Gov’t Reopening Plan

ANSONIA — The following information was sent Wednesday (July 17) by the City of Ansonia:

Phased Reopening Plan for City Departments

The City of Ansonia will begin a phased reopening of city departments and services following the guidelines set forth by the Reopen Connecticut Advisory Group of the State of Connecticut Governor’s Office.

Please note that the following dates and guidelines are subject to change and may be adjusted based on changes in the prevailing COVID-19 health situation and recommendations from the State of Connecticut and local health agencies. 

For all phases of this Plan, the following applies:

  • All visitors/members of the public MUST wear masks when in municipal buildings.
  • All employees MUST wear masks when interacting with the public or other city staff.
  • All city work stations MUST be equipped with hand sanitizer.
  • Social distancing guidelines will be posted and are to be observed.
  • Low-risk processing practices may increase the processing time for service requests.
  • Public access to municipal buildings will be restricted for members of the public.
  • Certain services may be limited to appointment only.”
  • Certain public events may be cancelled or modified due to safety concerns.
  • Teleconferencing will remain in place for all essential public meetings and hearings.

The following plan applies to City of Ansonia departments only, and is not intended to apply to private businesses, including offices, restaurants or any other private institution. 

Stage I: June 23-July 19

  • All municipal buildings will remain CLOSED to members of the public, with the exception of the Ansonia Transfer Station.
  • All municipal employees will return to staff the following departments (with employees following all applicable social distancing and PPE guidelines):

City Hall
Ansonia Public Works and Transfer Station
Ansonia Nature Center
Ansonia Library
WPCA
Ansonia Police Department
ARMS
Parks will be reopened, but public playgrounds and group sports are prohibited.

Municipal government meetings will continue to be held via teleconferencing through the duration of Executive Order 7B.

City events will be held on a limited basis and under applicable social distancing protocols. Use of City of Ansonia property events/gatherings must be pre-approved, and must comply with all applicable safety guidelines. 

Stage II: Anticipated Start Date: July 20

  • Municipal buildings will open to the public with restrictions.
  • Departments will serve once resident at a time, with appointments given preference.
  • City Hall will implement an electronic access system to control traffic flow.
  • Physical barriers will be erected to protect residents and staff.
  • Where applicable, a one-way traffic pattern will be established.
  • Decisions regarding recreational programming will be made based on prevailing health conditions.
  • Municipal government meetings will continue to be held via teleconferencing through the duration of Executive Order 7B.
  • City events will be held on a limited basis and under applicable social distancing protocols. Use of City of Ansonia property events/gatherings must be pre-approved, and must comply with all applicable safety guidelines.

Stage III: Timing Subject to State of Connecticut Announcements

Normal service restored to all departments.
