Ansonia Tax Board Takes Budget Comments Monday

FILEAnsonia’s Board of Apportionment and Taxation will meet Monday to establish a tentative” budget and mill rate for 2013 – 2014.

The board will also take public comments on the spending plan.

The meeting takes place at 7 p.m. at City Hall.

The tax board, which has final say over the budget, has been deliberating for weeks and making adjustments to the $60,778,052 2013 – 2014 the city’s aldermen sent them in February.

That figure represented a spending increase of about 3.6 percent.

A citywide revaluation means how much more a resident pays in taxes will depend on how much the value of their property changed, but as of last month the tax board’s working mill rate for the new budget stood at 38.441.

The city’s current mill rate is 27.65, but for comparison’s sake officials calcuated a new” mill rate of 29.217 based on the old grand list.

Still, from 27.65 to 29.217 is an increase of nearly 5.7 percent.

Meanwhile, aldermen voted last week to set a June 25 referendum asking residents to approve up to $4.9 million in bonding for various projects, but officials say that the spending won’t increase taxes.

The tax board is scheduled to adopt a final budget for 2013 – 2014 at their May 20 meeting.
