Ansonia Teenager Charged With Murder

ANSONIA — A 17-year-old Ansonia resident was formally charged with murder in connection to a shooting that happened April 5 on Hubbell Avenue.

Monteral Crews was arraigned in court on June 1 on charges of murder, felony murder, first-degree criminal attempt at robbery, first-degree conspiracy to commit robbery, and carrying a pistol without a permit.

According to police, Crews shot and killed Johnny Class, 20, of Stratford, while Class sat in a vehicle on Hubbell Avenue on April 5. The crime happened during an attempted drug deal, police said.

Crews fled to North Carolina, where he was captured by U.S. Marshals on May 13. He was brought back to Connecticut on May 27 and was initially arraigned in juvenile court on May 31. His case was transferred to adult court, police said.

Crews is being held on a $1,5 million bond and his next court date is June 23, 2022 at Superior Court in Milford.

The investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are anticipated,” according to a statement from Lt. Patrick Lynch.
