Arson Suspected At Former Ansonia Factory Building

ANSONIA — Friday night’s fire at a vacant building on Liberty Street was the work of an arsonist, according to a social media post from the Ansonia Fire Department.

Arson is a serious offense that puts lives at risk and poses a threat to the community,” the Facebook post reads. We are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying anyone who may have started the fire the other day at the Ansonia Copper and Brass. If you have any information, please come forward. Thank you for your cooperation.”

The suspicious fire at the former Ansonia Copper and Brass at 75 Liberty St. was reported at about 4:50 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 2. Neighbors said they saw two people enter the building. Firefighters pronounced the building clear without finding anyone inside, according to Ansonia Fire Department Assistant Chief Anthony DeLucia.

No injuries were reported.

In addition to Ansonia firefighters, crews from Derby, Seymour, Shelton, and Orange responded to the three-alarm blaze, as did officials from the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

The city is currently foreclosing on the property.
