BIC recently announced the recipients of its 2013 scholarship awards, including five students from the lower Naugatuck Valley.
The scholarships are awarded annually to the children of BIC employees and are based on the students’ scholastic achievements and community service.
This year, BIC awarded a total of $115,000 in scholarships to 62 students.
Miriam Lautenschlager, of Shelton, is the recipient of a $3,000 scholarship. Lautenschlager is studying nursing at Saint Anselm College. She is the daughter of Marlene Lautenschlager.
Sarah Valenti, of Seymour, is the recipient of a $3,000 scholarship. Valenti is studying psychology at Salve Regina University. She is the daughter of Catherine Valenti.
Christine Katrenya, of Oxford, who is studying chemistry at Southern Connecticut State University, received a $1,000 scholarship. She is the daughter of Margaret Katrenya.
Richard Katrenya, of Oxford, who is studying information management sciences and systems at Post University, received a $2,000 scholarship. He is the son of Margaret Katrenya.
Luke Stepan, of Oxford, who is studying botany at Purdue University, received a $1,000 scholarship. He is the son of Constance Stepan.
BIC Corporation began its scholarship program in 1971 to support future leaders and to help employees’ children defray the cost of college and graduate school.
