ANSONIA - The City of Ansonia has scheduled a public preview of its visions and plan for the historic, long-abandoned Ansonia Opera House, to take place Tuesday, February 18 th , 2025 at the Ansonia Senior Center (65 Main Street, 2 nd Floor) at 5:30 p.m. This event is open to the public and press.

The Ansonia Opera House – constructed in 1870 — is located in the heart of downtown Ansonia, where it once served as the premiere theatre and public hall in the Lower Naugatuck Valley. Vacant since the 1970s, the location has been proudly owned and preserved by the Kendzierski family for decades.

In 2022, the City of Ansonia partnered with the Kendzierski family by entering into a long-term ($1.00 per year) lease of the property with the intent of facilitating the renovation of the exterior and interior of the property. The City’s goal is to restore the site to its former glory as a center for arts and entertainment in Ansonia and the broader Valley area, with a public use component to directly benefit Ansonia residents.

Now, the City, owner Walt Kendzierski, and staff are ready to share the status of their preliminary investigation and planning for the project, including the results of a feasibility study funded by a $20,000 grant from the State Historic Preservation Office. This will include vibrant renderings depicting the possible outcomes of this exciting project.

Refreshments will be served.
