Oxford, CT — On Thursday, December 26, the spirit of Chanukah illuminated Quarry Walk as the community came together for the 3rd Annual Oxford Chanukah Celebration. Organized by the Chabad Jewish Center of Oxford, the evening was a joyous display of unity, tradition, and festivity.
The highlight of the event was the grand lighting of a towering 10-foot menorah, symbolizing the enduring power of light over darkness. The celebration reached new heights — literally — with the Oxford Fire Department joining the festivities. From atop their fire truck, firefighters delighted children with a “gelt drop,” raining down holiday chocolates for all to enjoy.
The celebration welcomed those returning from previous years as well as newcomers.
“We were not sure what to expect from the Chanukah event,” said Rachel Losak, who joined for the first time this year. “However, after meeting new people and coming together to say the prayers over the Chanukah candles, I felt a much stronger connection to the Jewish community in the area.”
Adding to the excitement, an ice sculptor captivated the crowd by transforming a solid block of ice into a stunning menorah, a creative artistic display for the Festival of Lights. As well, guests enjoyed latkes and doughnuts, traditional Chanukah favorites, completing the festive atmosphere.
“This celebration is about bringing light to the community and sharing the joy of Chanukah with everyone,” said Rabbi Shmaya Hecht of Chabad Jewish Center of Oxford. “Being able to share this message with all gathered is a real honor.”
The Chabad Jewish Center of Oxford extends its gratitude to Quarry Walk, the Oxford Fire Department, and all attendees for making this year’s event a memorable success.
