Connecticut Education Association Honors Derby Public Schools Superintendent

DERBY – The Connecticut Education Association (CEA) recently honored Derby Public Schools Superintendent Matthew Conway for his collaborative relationship with educators and his efforts to improve teaching in Connecticut.

The CEA is the state’s largest association of public school teachers.

Conway was awarded the CEA’s Excellence in Education Advocacy Award” at a ceremony held on Sept. 27 in New Haven during a fundraiser for the Connecticut Education Foundation. Click here for more info.

This distinction recognizes Dr. Conway’s commitment to his school community and the premium he places on teacher autonomy and respect for the profession,” Kate Dias, CEA president, said in a prepared statement.

The CEA said Conway was honored for his collaborative relationship with educators as well as his work on the Governor’s Teacher and Recruitment Task Force and Connecticut Advisory Council for Teaching and Professional Standards.”

Conway has been Derby’s superintendent since 2012. He’s been involved in education for 35 years, and is a former state legislator.

He is a past president of both the South Central Connecticut Area Superintendents Association and the Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendents.

Conway said he was honored to be noticed by the organization and thanked the Derby community for their support.
