DERBY – The Derby Board of Education recognized six students on April 3 who received awards from the South Central Superintendents Association (SCASA).
“The awards are presented to students at the highest level in each school who exhibit the following criteria: community service and service to others; academic prowess relative to ability; and leadership to the school community,” according to a prepared statement from Derby Public Schools.
The Derby students recognized are:

“Keheen, Anthony, Mia, Jonathan, Alexia and Kobe have each demonstrated remarkable grind and grit in their academic and extracurricular endeavors,” Derby Public Schools Superintendent Matthew Conway said. “This recognition reflects the high standards they set for themselves and of our educational community and serve as an inspiration to their peers.”
The students were also recognized at a SCASA Awards banquet on April 26.
Jim Gildea, chairman of the board of education, said the students are great representatives of Derby.
“They are shining examples of all that is good in the Derby school system. We look forward to following their careers and future accomplishments,” Gildea said.
