Derby firefighters dealt with a car fire Sunday that was dangerously close to a house.
The fire was reported at about 11:45 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Coon Hollow Road and Hawthorne Avenue, according to the department’s Facebook page.
Two fire engines were sent, but the call was immediately upgraded since the car was just four feet from the home.
Firefighters and police got everyone out of the house safely and quickly put out the blaze.
David Lenart, of the Derby Fire Department’s assistant chiefs, said help arrived just in time.
“I know it’s a cliche to say, but in another minute the house definitely would have been on fire,” he said.
The car was a loss but damage to the house was relatively minor — melted fencing and siding.
