DERBY — The city’s fire marshal is on administrative leave after being charged with driving under the influence in North Haven.
David Marcarelli was arrested on Dec. 23, 2024, according to the state’s court database. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Superior Court in Meriden at 10 a.m. Jan. 9.
Linda Fusco, Derby Mayor Joseph DiMartino’s chief of staff, said on Jan. 6 that Marcarelli is on paid administrative leave.
She said she could not comment further.
Marcarelli has been Derby’s fire marshal since November 2022. He was paid $82,773 when hired. Prior to that he was with the North Haven Fire Department for 30 years.
On Jan. 6, The Valley Indy requested an incident report from the North Haven Police Department’s records division regarding the arrest. This story will be updated when more information is available.
Marcarelli is the second Derby public official to be charged with a crime recently. The Connecticut Post reported that Dani Soto was arrested in Derby on Jan.1. He was charged with unlawful restraint, disorderly conduct and harassment. Click here to read the story.
Soto, a member of the Derby Housing Authority and a past volunteer with the city’s cultural commission, is a Bridgeport police officer. His Jan. 1 arrest happened as he was already on leave for a prior arrest.
Soto has been on leave from his volunteer position with the housing authority since his first arrest, Derby officials said.
