Derby Historical Society Annual Appeal

DERBY – Please join the Derby Historical Society at their Annual Appeal on November 20, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Payden Field House in Derby as they honor the Griffin Hospital as the Dr. John I. Howe Award recipient. Dinner will consist of chicken, ziti, salad, bread, beverage, coffee and dessert. While ticket prices are $40, anyone who makes a $50 donation will also receive a free ticket. As part of this event, Dr. Joseph DiRienzo will give a presentation on the Evolution of Griffin Hospital”.

The Dr. John I. Howe Award is presented to an individual, businessperson, organization, small business or corporation that has consistently benefited one or more Valley communities in the manner exemplified by its namesake. This benefit can be through activism, perseverance and/or philanthropy to the extent that the Derby Historical Society recognizes that the recipient will be remembered, in an historical context, by future generations.

Griffin Hospital opened to the public in 1909 and quickly became a beloved Valley institution that, over the years, has provided the most up-to-date and professional service and care to countless Valley residents. The organization has become an essential part of the community with members often discreetly donating their time and energy to help raise money for many worthy causes. Their response to the COVID-19 pandemic was an outstanding example of keeping our Valley and State safe through leadership and cooperation with many neighboring organizations.

The Derby Historical Society is a proud nonprofit volunteer-driven organization charged with preserving and teaching local history. The popular A Day in 1762” program has, since 1980, instilled a curiosity for our past in countless elementary school children. The Annual Appeal is the organization’s most important fundraiser that helps sustain its objectives and programs in both normal times and during devastating shutdowns as dictated by the recent COVID-19 pandemic.

We hope that we can count on your attendance at the Annual Appeal. Please contact us at (203) 735‑1908 or visit our website, www.derbyhistorical.org, to register for the event or to make a tax deductible donation to the Derby Historical Society. We are grateful for the continued support and generosity of the public.
