DERBY — Sarah Riggs Humphreys-Mary Silliman Chapter, NSDAR Regent Jeaneen Buchanan and Deb Heim met with Derby Mayor Joseph L. DiMartino who proclaimed September 17 – 23 Constitution Week. When presenting the Proclamation, the Mayor noted that September 17, 2024 marks the 237th anniversary of the drafting of the Constitution by the Constitutional Convention.
Information about our Constitution is also at the Derby Library where patrons can see a display about the Constitution. The Constitution is a living document that assures each of us the freedoms we cherish and appreciate. American colonists fought, sacrificed, and died to establish and preserve the freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States.
The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) continues the commitment to encourage study, celebrate, inspire and educate the public about this important document. The U.S. Constitution is the oldest constitution still in active use in the world today and is the basic document of our republic, which protects the individual liberties of all citizens through written law.
Let us celebrate Constitution Week September 17 – 23 by voting in the upcoming November election. It is our right and responsibility as U.S. Citizens. CT now offers early in-person voting.
