Update: Some 16 Rounds Fired In Derby Incident

DERBY – Detectives are continuing their investigation into a shooting Wednesday on Hawkins Street. Updated story here.

Derby Police Department Deputy Chief Brian Grogan said about 16 rounds were fired on the street in the area of 109 Hawkins St.

No injuries were reported.

The suspect or suspects fled prior to the arrival of police, Grogan said. 

Our detective bureau is following up on leads. Incident appears to be isolated following a dispute,” Grogan said in an email to The Valley Indy on Thursday (Feb. 22)..

Police received a report of shots fired around 4:15 p.m.

Neighbors told The Valley Indy they heard gunfire but did not see anything. Police were looking for a sedan immediately after the incident.

DoingItLocal reported police activity on Route 8 may have been connected to the Derby shooting.

Grogan said Derby police did not pursue suspects. The Valley Indy asked whether anyone had been detained in connection to the incident. Grogan said no arrests have been made.

DERBY — Police are investigating a report of shots fired on Hawkins Street near the intersection of Seventh Street.

A neighbor reported hearing some 10 gunshots fired on the street, according to the initial emergency radio transmission.

No injuries were reported, according to an initial radio dispatch. Neighbors interviewed by The Valley Indy said they heard gunshots but didn’t see anything.

The incident was reported around 4 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 21).

Officers were still on scene at 5 p.m. and crime-scene tape cordoned off the area.

DoingItLocal reported a pursuit on Route 8 south might be connected to the incident.
