Derby police said they had seven car break-ins in August, as compared to three car break-ins in July.
The Valley Indy requested the information after three readers sent messages to the publication asking about car burglaries in Derby.
Barbara DeGennaro, president of the Derby Board of Aldermen, also asked about thefts from motor vehicles during the Aug. 28 Aldermen meeting.
She asked Derby Police Chief Gerald Narowski whether anyone had been detained in connection to the crimes.
“There are persons of interest that I can’t discuss in a public meeting, but, yes, the detective bureau is investigating,” Narowski said. “We’ve had a few sprees in the area. It’s been fairly quiet recently.”
Derby police believe two of the reported burglaries in August are questionable.
Items stolen from the cars include the usual — electronic equipment such as GPS devices and tools.
Readers told the Valley Indy the thefts have occurred on Hawthorne Avenue and on Ida Avenue across town.
According to police, there was a car burglary on New Haven Avenue in July, along with two more on Paugassett Road.
August saw reports on Gilbert Street, Atwater Avenue, Hawthorne Avenue, Cherry Street, Minerva Street, Seymour Avenue and Elizabeth Street.
