A Derby police officer is due in court Sept. 19 after being accused of hitting a woman several times during an argument in New Haven Aug. 4.

Officer Jordan Gochros faces three misdemeanor charges: third-degree assault, second-degree breach of peace, and third-degree criminal mischief.
Derby Police Chief Gerald Narowski told The Valley Indy Gochros has been suspended without pay since the incident.
“The department will be conducting an internal affairs investigation regarding the incident,” Narowksi said.
According to the Register, Gochros got into an argument with the victim while traveling in a car with her. He allegedly threw her phone out the window before hitting her several times.
Gochros allegedly told police the woman had struck him, then tried to jump out of the car during the argument, according to the Register.
Police noted signs of battery on the woman. No injuries to Gochros were reported by the Register.
The woman was not charged with a crime.
Gochros was previously the Derby Police Department’s canine officer. He’s been on the job in Derby since 2008.
He was one of several police officers who helped a woman in distress five years ago.
