DERBY — Derby Public Schools announced the hiring of a new business manager for the district.
John Passarelli was appointed by the city’s board of education at a meeting Feb. 18. He replaces John Izzo, who is retiring from the district.
Passarelli comes to Derby Public Schools from Production Resource Group, based in Orange County, New York. He was the company’s director of finance and financial planning and analysis.
Passarelli received his bachelor of business administration in finance and accounting from Pace University, his MBA from Mount Saint Mary College and is currently pursuing certification as a certified management accountant, according to a press release from Derby schools.
“John embodies our Derby family values and comes to the table with not only a strong financial background, but someone who has a reputation of not having ‘a bad bone in his body, a great guy and even better employee’,” Superintendent Matthew Conway said in a prepared statement. “We are excited to welcome John to the family. John will have the opportunity to learn from the best, as retired business manager Mark Izzo will help introduce John to all aspects of the role of a school district business manager.”
The position, which plays a key role with the superintendent in crafting and overseeing the school budget, pays $125,000.
The position’s equivalent in Derby City Hall in the city’s finance director, of which the city recently hired David Taylor. He replaced Keith McLiverty, the city’s previous interim finance director. Taylor is being paid $90 per hour, according to Mayor Rich Dziekan’s office.
