Derby Students Participate in St. Patrick’s Day Run

Members of the Derby Middle School Running Club participated in the 4‑mile run/2 mile walk St. Patrick’s Day Classic in Fairfield, CT

Finishing first amongst the students was Antonio Prizio with a time of 30:26, followed by his sister, Gabriella Prizio, with a time of 32:04, with Garrett Kochar coming in third with a time of 33:15. Angela Fortuna won third place in her age group. Other students participating included Joshua Moscato, Sejada Jusic, Ashley Schlemmer, Marah Awad, Jack Peccerillo, and Rebecca Sanchez.

The DMS Running Club is moderated by volunteer teacher-coaches Michael Gozzo (Social Studies), Shelley Sheridan (Special Education) and Jason Cebula (Physical Education). Many of the students participated in cross country in the fall and have continued running all winter long, braving the elements with the support of their dedicated coaches.

Also joining the club in the run/walk were parents Anthony Peccerillo and Bonnie and David Markoya, along with Derby Public Schools staff members Jenny Ames, Ryan Jockers, Megan Arsenault, Rahul Samata, Anat Segal, DMS Principal Sally Bonina, Diane Raynor, Marci Minolaio, and Mary Lou Minolaio.
