Derby Youth Services Bureau Receives United Way Grant To Educate Parents

The Derby Youth Services Bureau was awarded $3,000 for an educational program for parents of Derby students entering middle and high school.

Parents are invited to participate in a two-night workshop to be held at Derby Middle School on May 4 and May 11 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Parenting for Prevention 101” will provide up-to-date information concerning substance use, underage drinking and prescription medicine misuse. 

Also covered will be information concerning warning signs and practical steps parents can take in identifying risky behavior. 

Staff from Birmingham Group Health Services, Valley Substance Abuse Action Council and Bridges Milford will facilitate the workshops and be on hand to answer questions.

Students are encouraged to attend and participate in a West-African and Carribean drumming workshop led by Ajali, a folk group from Trinidad.

There is no charge for this event and dinner will be provided.
