The “Ghost Hunters” episode featuring Derby’s Sterling Opera House was viewed by 1.5 million people Wednesday night.
That’s the highest-rated “Ghost Hunters” episode for the SyFy program in about a month, according to TV By The Numbers.
Overall viewership for the show is down from last season, when it averaged 2 million viewers an episode. “Ghost Hunters” is in its seventh season on television.
Reaction to the show has been generally positive, as evidenced by posts on the Valley Indy Facebook wall and the 200 readers who participated in our live blog.
Derby viewers were disappointed the Sterling Opera House didn’t get a full hour on the show (the show split its 60-minute length into two investigations).
Rich DiCarlo, the man responsible for bringing the ghost hunters to Derby said on Facebook Thursday that a DVD of the show may contain interviews with local residents that did not make it into the show, such as historian Rob Novak.
Markanthony Izzo, who helped organize Wednesday’s packed viewing party at the Catholic War Veterans Post 1562, sent out a thank you message late Thursday.
“Whatever you thought of the results, we hope everyone had a nice night out and we thought it would be fun to watch the show together. It was pretty cool when everyone applauded as they saw the Derby sign (at the start of the show),” Izzo wrote.
The Derby “Ghost Hunters” episode is scheduled to be on again tonight (Friday, April 22) at 5 p.m. and Wednesday at 7 p.m.
