Pesky Fire Within Ansonia Business Extinguished

Crews from the Ansonia Fire Department were sent to Riverside Drive 10 a.m. Wednesday (Feb. 27) after a fire was reported within the dust-collecting system at Royal Woodcraft.

No injuries were reported.

Smoke could be seen billowing from the mechanical systems attached to the side of the building.

A cold and steady rain fell as volunteer firefighters did their work.

Firefighters used a ladder truck to access and put out the flames within the dust-collecting apparatus. They also ran lines into the building through a loading dock into the building.

As of 10:45 a.m., firefighters were using chainsaws to cut the roof and get into the duct work to extinguish any remaining flames.

The incident was under control as of 10:54 a.m.

Royal Woodcraft is a company that designs and manufactures custom cabinetry.

Vehicle access to Riverside Drive was limited during the incident because firefighters stretched hose lines from fire hydrants across the street and toward the building.

The fire marshal’s office is investigating.
