Educator Seeks Spot On Seymour School Board

As a Lifelong Seymour Resident, graduate of the Seymour Public Schools, and current educator, I am a perfect fit for the Board of Education.

I have been an active member of the educational community for the past ten years serving first as a student representative to the Board of Education during the 2002 – 2003 school year, followed by consecutive service on both the High School Building Committee and Chatfield and LoPresti Building Committee.

In the spring of 2009 I completed my M.A. in Education from Fairfield University. I believe these experiences make me an excellent choice to guide our school system as it continues its transition to a new administration. As a current educator, I see first-hand the day- to- day challenges facing our children as they continue the difficult task of navigating the world of education in the 21st century.

It is my hope that we can come together as a community to support the Board resourcefully, but conservatively, as we continue to face these difficult economic times. We have tremendous students who excel day in and day out in the classroom and the community whom we must continue to foster.

As someone who would not be where I am today without the educational foundation I received in the Seymour Public Schools, I feel it is the right time to step up and give back to the community by serving on the Board of Education.

As a member of the Board of Education, I will remember that I have been elected by the voters to serve in the best interest of not only all the students of the district but also the members of the community. I will work tirelessly with other board and town officials to diminish the polarization between the Board of Education and the community and bring the schools back as the center of the community. One of the keys to this would be to open better lines of communication amongst the Board itself.

I have been attending Board of Education meetings regularly for almost ten years, even spending a year as a student representative of the Board. It is evident that we need to continue to cultivate the academic and athletic success we have had by continuing the rich tradition of delivering high-achieving life-long learners into the community.

As a member of the Board of Education, I believe that it will be imperative to look at every detail of the system and its financial picture. As difficult economic times continue, we need to maintain the quality of education we have delivered into the classroom by making sure that every penny possible is funneled directly in the classroom.

I hope that on Nov. 8 you will choose the candidate that you trust will make decisions that have the best interest of all the students and the entire district in mind.
