There were no injuries Friday during a fire inside a single-family house on Park Avenue in Derby.
A person called 911 after seeing smoke billowing from a house at 67 Park Ave. at about 1 p.m.
There was no one in the house when the fire started.
Derby Assistant Fire Department Chief Kurt Kemmesies, Jr. said arriving firefighters saw smoke coming from open windows on both floors of the two-story house.
Firefighters were able to get the fire under control within about five minutes.
“It was pretty much contained to the kitchen area, but the fire marshal is investigating,” Kemmesies said.

A dog inside the home was OK, the assistant chief said.
“Firefighters did an excellent job knocking it down as quickly as they did,” Kemmesies said.
The house suffered extensive smoke damage and the kitchen area was badly damaged as well.
“The fire damage was contained to the first floor, with a little bit of extension to the second,” he said.
Firefighters from Shelton were called in to assist, as per fire department protocol.
Firefighters were on the scene until 1:47 p.m.
The house shared a common driveway with two other homes. It was on Park Avenue, just east of the B Street intersection.
