UPDATE: Fire Hits Ansonia House

An attic fire at a Spring Street home in Ansonia sent a 13-year-old boy to the hospital Saturday.

Ansonia Fire Department Chief Ron Burgess Sr. said Monday that about 30 Ansonia firefighters and 10 from Derby responded to the blaze about 1 p.m. and arrived to find two rooms of the house’s attic fully involved.”

They were able to get the fire under control in about 25 minutes, according to the chief.

The knockdown was pretty quick,” he said.

A mother and her two sons were at the house at the time, Burgess said.

One of the sons, a 13-year-old, was sent to Bridgeport Hospital for treatment of burns on his hands and smoke inhalation, according to Burgess.

Firefighters were on the scene for about 90 minutes for salvage and overhaul work, Burgess said.

The fire marshal was also called to the scene to investigate the blaze, the cause of which was undetermined as of Monday morning.

The Red Cross is providing assistance to the family.
