Gentile Announces Tech Grant For Derby Public Library

State Rep. Linda M. Gentile (D‑Ansonia/Derby) is pleased to announce receipt of a grant from the State Library Board.

The Derby Public Library will use the $16,360.00 grant to connect to the Connecticut Education Network (CEN) by high-speed fiber.

CEN provides reliable, high-speed access, data transport, and value added services to its members, including network security, applications, and numerous professional development options.

This grant to Derby Public Library is one of the very first public library grants appropriated in the state,” said Rep. Gentile. I am glad the State Library Board gave us priority. Many families and seniors in Derby and surrounding communities cannot afford home computers. This grant will offer those individuals free Internet access – allowing them to cross the digital divide. The funds will cover installation of the fiber optic connection. Libraries have always been, and will continue to be, a great resource for our residents.”

Established in 2000, CEN helps deliver on the promise of equality in education by providing access to technology that schools and libraries would not be able to afford without assistance.
