The 'Kindness Crew' at Mead Elementary School greeted students on the first day of classes.

ANSONIA, CTThe Ansonia Public Schools district is excited to begin the new school year. There are lots of smiles this August 25, 2022, as students are greeted by Superintendent Joseph DiBacco and Principal Amy Cosciello, staff, and the Kindness Crew outside of Mead Elementary School.

We are extremely excited to see the happy and smiling faces of students as we begin this 2022 – 2023 school year,” said Superintendent DiBacco. I visited all our schools, you can feel the positive energy and excitement from our students, staff, and parents. It’s going to be a wonderful year!”

The Kindness Crew, a selected group of fifth grade students that will serve as ambassadors were also part of the welcoming committee. Their first mission as ambassadors this year is to welcome staff and students back to the start of the year. This is the first year that Mead Elementary School is training fifth grade students to serve as leaders and role models for the rest of the school population.

We are ready to give our kids the school experience they deserve,” said Principal Amy Cosciello. We are finally getting back to normal and seeing their smiling faces is why my staff shows up!”

The school district is continuing to expand and grow successful programs to provide students the opportunity for college and career readiness. In addition to the Kindness Crew at the elementary level, Ansonia Public Schools have two Maker’s Space After School programs. At Ansonia Middle School, we have a Robotics After School Program.

Ansonia Public Schools is also starting the Ansonia Family University where parents, students, and staff will have the opportunity to discuss developmental assets to ensure academic and social emotional success for all students.

Ansonia Family University targets building blocks of healthy development to help students and their families,” states Reese Morales, Director of Equity and Communications. We want to encourage and empower our parents to continue advocating for their children’s education.”
