Mayor Encourages Families To Attend ‘Derby Day’ On June 14

Derby City Hall is moving out of its office building to a party tent on Elizabeth Street – just for the day.

This year, Mayor Anita Dugatto and her staff will be hosting a booth at the annual Derby Day celebration, being held on Saturday, June 14, 2014.

Derby Day is a community event that brings the downtown area alive with music, food, and festivities for the entire family.

Every year Elizabeth Street, from Main Street to the green, is crowded with local artisans, food vendors, and area businesses eager to showcase their goods.

Dugatto views the street festival as a wonderful opportunity for her office to connect with the people it serves.

Derby Day will give us a chance to talk informally about the city and the positive things that are happening. People are free to ask questions, drop comments in our suggestion box, and meet our staff. Residents can complete paperwork to request a new recycle bin or register to vote. They can also stop by to learn more about upcoming city
improvements,” according to the mayor.

Dugatto is especially excited about her plans to involve the youngest members of the community.

With support from the Derby Inaugural Ball Community Fund, Derby City Hall will be sponsoring a scavenger hunt easy enough for children to participate in.

At the end, the children will be awarded a small prize, in addition to two Derby Day Dollars. The Derby Day Dollars will allow them to have fun on the bungee jumper trampoline, inflatable obstacle course, or bounce house, at no cost to their families,” Dugatto said.

I want families to be able to enjoy Derby Day with their children and go home with a little something to remember the day by. Hopefully our efforts will make it easier for them to participate in this wonderful community event.”

Adults who take part in the scavenger hunt will be winners, too.

They will get the chance to win raffle prizes of gas and grocery gift cards.

Mayor Dugatto is encouraging everyone to attend Derby Day and support the vendors and artisans who help make this event a success.

While there, stop by the Derby City Hall booth to collect a scavenger hunt game card.

Derby Day is being held, rain or shine, on Saturday, June 14, 2014, from 10 am to 5pm on Elizabeth Street in downtown Derby.
