DERBY — There were no injuries reported after a fire tore through a multi-family house on Bank Street overnight Tuesday.
The Red Cross were contacted to help find housing for the displaced residents. The Derby Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause and origin of the blaze.
Firefighters were sent to 12 Bank St. at 1:29 a.m., according to a Derby Fire Department post on Facebook.
Police officers on scene reported a house fire “fully-involved.” The first firefighters on scene saw heavy fire from the front of the two-story, 12-room apartment house.
A number of residents were outside, but it was unclear at first whether anyone else was inside.
Firefighters dealt with the fire in the front and then went inside to extinguish more flames.
A search showed no other occupants in the structure.
“Primary searches were negative. Units remained on scene with extensive overhaul and to check for hot spots,” according to the fire department.
Ansonia and Derby fire police were on scene, along with firefighters from Ansonia. Fire departments from Shelton and Orange covered other calls for Derby while units were on Bank Street.
Derby Fire Department Chief Michael Gloade was the incident commander. Units were on scene for about three hours.
