Opening Day Approaches For Ansonia Farmers Market

A new farmers market opens Thursday at the West Main Street parking lot in Ansonia, and Vinnie Scarlata, chairman of the city’s Economic Development Commission, is making sure everyone knows about it.

i just picked up signs,” Scarlata said Wednesday, adding that he would post them as reminders all around town to promote the market.

The market is opening Thursday (July 19) at 2 p.m. It will remain open weekly on Thursdays from 2 to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

At the market, shoppers can buy the fresh produce, plants, and garden supplies.

Area merchants participating in the market include Marcucio Farms, Marcucio Gardens, and Grassy Hill Farm in Orange, to name a few.

Marcucio Farms and Marcucio Gardens will provide fresh produce, organic garden sprays, vegetables, and herbs and spices. Grassy Hill Farm in Orange plans to sell corn and tomatoes.

Bill Schuchmann of East Side Greenhouses said he will not be attending the market’s opening day, reasoning that he needed more time to prepare. In a few weeks, however, Schuchmann plans to make his way to the market with corn and squash.

According to Scarlata, the market will be open until September or October, depending on the amount of produce available after the summer season.

Parking for the farmers market is available on the left side of the West Main Street parking lot. Market tents will be set up on the right side of the lot.
