A town resident who serves as a clerk in the tax collector’s office in Newtown announced Monday night she’ll be running for tax collector.
Cayenne Spremullo made the announcement at the Republican headquarters of George R. Temple for First Selectman and Jeffrey Haney for Selectman.
Spremullo replaces Sharon Lee Scinto, who pulled her name from the Nov. 8 election ballot on Oct. 11.
Scinto, who is the town’s assistant tax collector, said she had recently moved out of town and would not be running.
Spremullo has been with the Newtown tax collector’s office since 2004.
“It’s a huge honor to be asked to run,’‘ Spremullo said. “I would love to work with Sharon and I think we would make a great team,’‘ she said.
Spremullo is married to her husband, Jonathan, who is a first lieutenant with the Center Fire Company. They have a daughter Lia James, age 16 months.
