Oxford School Board Votes To Settle Lawsuit

The Oxford Board of Education voted 6 – 3 Tuesday to settle a lawsuit filed by former school Superintendent Judith Palmer.

School officials wouldn’t release any details on the settlement Tuesday.

A previous school board voted in May 2010 to void Palmer’s contract, saying at the time a school board’s attorney said language’‘ in the contract was not legal and recommended the board void it.

However, the school board chairman at the time declined to specify what areas of the contract are deemed illegal.

The move touched off a heated political controversy in town.

Palmer left the district in August 2010. Her departure started a revolving door of school superintendents in Oxford.

Palmer filed a lawsuit in November 2011, saying the school district owed her $4,200 in back pay.
