Paul Roy Reflects On Two Years As First Selectman

On Tuesday Nov. 8, the residents of Seymour chose to take another path with the selection of Kurt Miller to be the new First Selectman.

On Dec. 5 Kurt will officially take the position that I have held for the last two years.

Naturally I am very disappointed that I did not win the election, but in politics things can change very quickly and that is what happened on Election Day.

The past two years have been very rewarding to me in many different ways.

First was the many times that I could help individuals with their personal issues.

Next was to get the Police Station roof and other issues cleared up in that building as well as finally finding money to fix the roof at the Public Works building and to get approval to buy new equipment for that department.

The Citizens Fire House will have a new rescue truck and the Communications System at the Police Department will be upgraded. There are several others as well and I am proud of those accomplishments.

Some of the things that I will miss the most will be working with the wonderful employees of the Town of Seymour, reading to third graders at Bungay School, throwing out the First pitch at George Hummel Little League, cleaning Sochrin’s Pond Park with Middle School kids, giving a pep talk to the Seymour High School Baseball Team, meeting with the Middle School Student Council, attending graduations, visiting the schools on the first day, attending Eagle Scout ceremonies, the Men Who Cook” event, the Fire Department Dinners, the Kick-Off Club Banquet, Pop Warner Banquet, Valley United Way functions, representing Seymour at VCOG meetings, Naugatuck Valley MPO and Greater Bridgeport MPO meetings, Bristol Resource and Recycling meetings and of course conducting the Board Of Selectmen meetings.

I would like to thank all of you for your support over the last two years because I could not have done what I did without your support. It has truly been a pleasure to work for and with you and it is something that I will never forget.

Paul Roy,
First Selectman
Town of Seymour
