PCRC Plans Event

The Parent Child Resource Center (PCRC), the leading provider of behavioral health services to children and families in the Lower Naugatuck Valley, is pleased to announce its 35th Annual Meeting.

The event will take place on Thursday, December 9, 2010 at Villa Bianca in Seymour, CT.

This annual event is a celebration of PCRCs accomplishments as well as an important opportunity to raise community awareness about children’s mental health issues.
Keynote Speaker

We are pleased to announce that this year’s keynote speaker will be Dr. Ron Slaby, a developmental psychologist, educator, and research scientist who has helped to shape an international agenda on the prevention of youth violence and the influence of media on children and youth. He has been involved in the creation of several anti-bullying campaigns for organizations like the Cartoon Network/MTV Stop Bullying: Speak Up campaign; the Melissa Institute for Violence Prevention and Treatment; and Eyes on Bullying.

Because we believe this is such an important topic and because bullying is becoming so prevalent in our schools, PCRC is offering local educators a special reduced-price ticket of $30 (tickets for the general public are $50) to make it more accessible for them to attend this year’s Annual Meeting.

Laura Mutrie, PCRC Director of Clinicial Services, commented It is an honor to have Dr. Slaby join us as our keynote speaker on such a timely and important subject as bullying and youth violence. We are seeing more and more children in our clinic who are suffering from the stress and trauma of school violence and bullying and we need to work together as a community to prevent such behaviors.”

Award Recipients Announced

PCRC is also pleased to announce this year’s award recipients. The Mary Lou Cook Award for Outstanding Service to Children and Families will be presented to Audrey Dreyer. Until her recent retirement, Ms. Dreyer served for many years as a nurse at Shelton High School. In addition to her role as school nurse, Ms. Dreyer established the Shelton High School Food Bank and a Diaper Bank to assist young mothers. She is a tireless volunteer and advocate for youth and needy families in our community

David J. Grant will receive the Joseph A. Pagliaro, Sr. Award for Distinguished Service to Children and Families. David Grant is an exemplar of the next generation of community leaders in the Lower Naugatuck Valley. Following the example of his parents, David serves on many local boards, including PCRC, and is committed to giving back to the community and serving the needs of children and families.

Michael J. Wynne, PCRCs Chief Executive Officer, noted, We are so pleased to announce this year’s award recipients, both of whom embody the spirit of PCRCs mission to promote, enhance and maintain the positive behavioral health of children and families so they might develop to their fullest potential.”
