Pit Bull Bites Child In Ansonia

A pit bull bit a child at Nolan Field Thursday evening, according to Ansonia police, who are still looking for the dog and its owner.

Chief Kevin Hale said Friday that the child, believed to be 3 years old, was bitten on the chest and leg.

Police did not know how severe the child’s injuries were because he or she was taken to the hospital by a parent by the time paramedics arrived at the scene, Hale said.

Police police do not believe the injuries to have been serious.

Hale said there were two pit bulls in the park, which is on Wakelee Avenue, at the time of the incident. One was located by police after the incident and ruled out of suspicion for biting the child.

The other dog, which was on a leash, according to Hale, hasn’t been found.

Hale said the dog, a white pit bull, was last seen being led south on a leash by a black male.

The chief said police do not yet know what caused the dog to bite the child, but added it should not have ever been there.

Dogs aren’t supposed to be in the park to begin with, or any city parks,” Hale said.

Hale asked anyone with any information about Thursday’s incident to call Ansonia police at 203 – 735-1885.
