Police Investigate Report Of Shots Fired In Ansonia

ANSONIA — The police department is investigating reports of shots fired on Fourth Street in the area of Liberty and Star streets, according to a press release issued Wednesday night.

The incident happened at about 8:45 p.m. Tuesday (Feb. 6). The department received multiple calls from people reporting the sound of gunshots.

During the investigation multiple shell casings were recovered on Fourth Street. Video from the area showed several people walking on Fourth Street when two of them began firing guns for no apparent reason,” according to the statement.

The group ran in different directions.

Area hospitals were checked but there were no reported gunshot victims at any of the hospitals,” police said.

City officials have been talking for several years about installing surveillance cameras in the area where the shots were fired, along with a shot spotter” system. Voters approved spending up to $1 million on the initiative in November 2023.
