DERBY – Police said a parked vehicle was hit by gunfire on Anson Street on Thursday (June 27).
Police said they received a report of gunfire at 9:13 p.m. The incident happened in front of the Mini Mart, 51 Anson St.
“It appears a group of males were hanging out in front of the store when the shooting occurred. The shots were reportedly fired from a passing vehicle at the group of males,” said Derby Police Department Deputy Chief Brian Grogan.
A pickup truck parked on the road was hit. No injuries were reported.
Immediately after the incident there was a report of an Acura fleeing the scene. Grogan said that vehicle was located but that it does not appear to be the vehicle that fired the shots.
Police are still investigating a shooting that happened in the same area on June 13.
In that case, two people were hit in a shooting near a convenience store parking lot on Fifth Street. Emergency radio dispatched reported it as a drive-by shooting.
That incident started as an altercation between two people that morphed into gunplay, police said.
“A juvenile sustained a graze to the leg and a 18-year-old was shot in the foot,” in that incident, Grogan said.
Anyone with information on either incident should call police at 203 – 735-7811.
