DERBY — A 25-year-old man was shot on a sidewalk on Eighth Street in Derby Saturday night.
Police were bagging the victim’s bloody clothes, interviewing neighbors, and reviewing exterior home security video from the neighborhood as of 10:30 p.m.
He was taken to the Yale-New Haven Hospital. He was listed in unstable/guarded condition, police said.
Lt. Justin Stanko described the incident as a “targeted act of violence.”
The shooting happened around 9 p.m., police said.
A neighbor said the man was shot several times and clung to a road sign before falling to the sidewalk. The victim was shot at close-range.
He was conscious as EMS personnel assisted him on the sidewalk before loading him into an ambulance, a neighbor said.
A neighbor said a dark-colored vehicle spun its tires on the wet road before driving away from the scene.
The shooting happened at a multi-family house about five houses away from the intersection of Hawthorne Avenue and Eighth Street. It is a residential neighborhood.
