Update: Police Make Three Arrests In Seymour High School Arson

Police made three arrests during the holiday week and a fourth is expected in connection to the June 24 arson fires in the Seymour High School pool foyer.

Three individuals, two of whom were minors and all of whom are former Seymour High School students, turned themselves in at headquarters on New Year’s Eve after learning there were warrants for their arrests following a lengthy investigation.

Tyler Cook, 18, of Seymour, was charged with third-degree arson, third-degree burglary, second-degree criminal trespass, first-degree criminal mischief and possession of fireworks for the incident at 2 Botsford Road. He will appear at Derby Superior Court Jan. 19.

Two 17-year-old youths, whose names could not be released, were each charged with second-degree criminal trespass, conspiracy to commit third-degree burglary, possession of illegal fireworks and conspiracy to commit first-degree criminal mischief. They will appear in court Jan. 12.

Police said immediately following the fire Arson Hotline Tip” posters were posted throughout the Seymour Community by Assistant Seymour Fire Marshal Timm Willis. In August 2010 the State Fire Marshall’s Office received an anonymous tip via the Arson Tip Hotline” identifying possible suspects responsible for the fire. The suspects were then identified and information was collaborated by investigators.

After the investigation the detective division, in collaboration with the Seymour Fire Marshall’s Office and the State of Connecticut Fire Marshall’s Office, four arrest warrant affidavits were submitted and approved by the Derby Superior Court.

Another arrest is expected,” said Lt. Paul Satkowski, spokesman for the department.

The incident involved two separate fires that were only feet away from each other. The fire broke out at 3:20 a.m.

At least one of the small fires appeared to have been ignited with fireworks.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the small outbreak with water extinguishers.
